Week 7 β YULE MEALS AND TREATS
So, as we enter the time of family events and that of one of our sacred times, we reflect on the meals that bring us together to celebrate. YULE.
So, at the beginning of creating the section on recipes, I said if you are wanting to share ideas, please let me know. Well one of these next recipes was brought to us by another student via taste of home website.
Hannah for those of you that donβt know is a student with our school who for the last 30 years has been making this recipe to celebrate YULE. Hannah does add a few extra ingredients to the stew like rosemary, thyme and lavender all which we know is used for protection, communication and calming. Hannah also did mention that they do add corn, maybe some green beans to the mix. Just depends on the size of the pumpkin. So please enjoy and hope you like this recipe. π
Ingredients
2 pounds of beef stew meat cut into 1 β inch cubes
3 tablespoons canola oil, divided
1 cup of water
3 large potatoes peeled, cut into 1 β inch cubes
4 medium carrots sliced
1 large green pepper cut into Β½ inch pieces4 garlic cloves, minced
1 medium onion chopped
2 teaspoons salt
Β½ teaspoon pepper
2 tablespoons beef bouillon granules
1 can (14 Β½ ounces) diced tomatoes undrained
1 pumpkin (10 to 12 pounds)
(EXTRA ITEM IF YOU WANT TO ADD) β LAVENDER, THYME, ROSEMARY, CORN AND GREEN BEANS β WITH LAVENDER YOU CAN USE THE FLOWER OR OIL. BUT WITH LAVENDER, THYME AND ROSEMARY LIKE THE LAVENER OIL START AT 1 TSP AND THEN USE BASED OFF TASTE.
Magic Ingredients
Oil β As we have learned oil is very vital to our magic work. Creating spells, the correct way may require to use oil. Also cleansing the tools, you use with oil can be a powerful tool.
Water β Now this is a tricky one. Do we use moon water. Well, I would say moon water is the best to add all that powerful to it on the first day of Yule. But if you do not have moon water, then regular water can be used still.
Garlic β Can be used to banish evil spirts, protections, etc.
Salt β Can be used to create sacred space
Pepper β Can be used to ward off negative energy
Tomatoes β Can be used in place of apples for certain spells like love, or protection. If placed in a window seal it can be used to ward off negative energy as well.
Pumpkin β Can be used in divination work, banish evil, and protection.
Directions
1. In a cauldron brown the meat in the 2 tablespoons of oil. Add water, potatoes, carrots, green pepper, garlic, onion, salt and pepper. (This is where you would add the corn and green beans as well as any extra spices you have. For example, Hannah used rosemary, lavender, and thyme.) Cover and simmer for 2 hours. Stir in bouillon and tomatoes. Wash pumpkin: cut a 6-to-8-inch circle around top stem. Remove top and set aside, discard seeds (or roast them to not waste any part of the pumpkin) and loosen fibers from inside.
2. Place the pumpkin in a shallow but sturdy baking pan. Spoon stew into pumpkin and replace top. Brush outside of pumpkin with remaining oil. Bake at 325 for 2 hours or just until the pumpkin is tender (try not to overbake) Serve stew from the pumpkin scooping out a little pumpkin with each serving.
Now where would be celebrating Yule without a Yule cake. Yule logs were to represent the Yule logs that were lit at the beginning of the Winter Season. This recipe was got from All recipe.com
